This pit furnace was so large it had to enter the factory through the roof!

The work area inside this furnace is big enough for 6 people to stand inside, and they wouldn't be able to touch the roof of the heated chamber. Its not as big as some pit furnaces, but for around £100,000 complete with all the electrical and gas control gear, it very large for the cost.

The furnace has it's own built in lid section that is hydraulically lifted and swung to one side on large industrial bearings. The lid also houses the control thermocouples, atmosphere probe, and a water-cooled motor and fan.

Heating is via 3 burners that are controlled by a dual loop Eurotherm controller. This controller keeps check on the furnace temperature, as well as the atmosphere inside it, Controlling both simultaneously for perfect process control.
