Pit Nitriding Furnace

This Pit Gas Nitriding furnace was supplied to a subcontract heat treatment firm for treating various types of components.

The furnace, which operated at 6000c, has an internal retort constructed from a high-grade nickel-chrome alloy. Ammonia is "cracked" directly on the retort material and separates into a hydrogen and nitrogen mix. A centrifugal blower unit is fitted to force cool the furnace once the process cycle is complete. The lid of the furnace is sealed which our own design of water-cooled 'O'-ring seal, and has a fan and motor fitted to circulate the contained atmosphere.
