Description of Plant Type and Some Applicable Processes

Small set of bell furnaces

Bell Type Furnaces are used in batch or single component heating applications. The process can be almost anything, from annealing to brazing. The furnace is made up from two main sections, the heating chamber and the base.

The bases are normally fixed to the floor and can be in multiples, which share the same heating chamber. The majority of bell furnaces have a retort that seals to the base and can be filled with the desired atmosphere.

Once the load is ready, and the retort is in place (if needed), the heating chamber is placed over the unit and the load is heated. Once the heating duration is reached the heating chamber can be allowed to cool naturally or can by forced cooled.

Normally Bell Furnaces are used when a high purity atmosphere is required for the necessary process. Atmospheres commonly include Hydrogen and Nitrogen.
