This bell furnace was used for annealing transformer core under a protective atmosphere.

Due to restraints on size the retort was designed to lift as part of the furnace bell section, therefore reducing the amount of space required to unload the furnace.

The furnace was supplied with dedicated screw jacks which lifted the bell.
